This course helps prospective exporters understand the opportunities and challenges of intra-African trade. Only 16% of Africa's total exports are with other African countries. The course explains why this is the case, both at a continental level as well as at the enterprise level, and introduces some of reasons and means which African SMEs might deploy to start profitably trading in the continent. Particular focus is placed on the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) which provides new opportunities to increase intra-African trade in the form of easier access to African markets.
After having completed this course, participants will be able to:
- Assess the potential of intra-African exports;
- Identify measures and initiatives designed to provide support to African exporters;
- Assess the readiness of their business to take advantage of intra-African trade; and
- Start planning to engage in intra-African exports.
